The rapid expansion of Urban population and consequent Urbanization is a global phenomenon. This global trend of rapid urbanization coupled with scarcity of land and practical limitations to growth of infrastructure results in high cost of land. In countries like India among others where land quantum to population ratios are relatively lower, the demand for affordable living and working spaces in already strained urban environments, push for the emergence of “high density” developments, of which the “High-rise” becomes the most ubiquitous feature of contemporary urban environments.
